A Rose a Day 46. Butterflies
Butterflies is a rose that flitted into my life, stole my heart and then flitted away. Large petals wave in kaleidoscopic colors carrying a strong fragrance.
Breeding: Dornroeschen X Golden Wings
Bred by: Br Anthony Casimir Mekdeci (Canada) 1997
Introduced by: Hortico Inc. (Canada) 1997
After making several attempts to come back, I have not seen my Butterflies in three years. Hortico, has not propagated Butterflies for market in many years and my source for Butterflies, Brentwood Bay Nursery, Vancouver Island is sadly, no longer in business. The picture below is of my mom’s Butterflies. Hortico, provided a cutting may reconsider the propagation of Butterflies.
From The Toronto Star, July 2,2016
‘Dr. Anthony Casimir Mekdeci , born April 24,1937 of Portuguese descent in Guyana and educated through scholarship in Jamaica for medicine, practiced as a Toronto family physician for fifty years. Dr. Mekdeci, who died June 26,2016 was also a writer Sacred Stories and an amateur Canadian rose breeder.’
My sympathies to his family, friends and community and appreciation for his wonderful contributions.
